How often should I replace the string?
Often!! Some members of our pro team will replace their string every hour when putting on a show or demonstration. The harder you throw your yoyo, the more quickly the string wears. As the string becomes worn, it loses it "springiness" and your yoyo becomes harder to control. If your string becomes dirty or knotted, it's definitely time to replace the string.
How do I replace the string?
Let your yoyo hang at the bottom of the string. Spin the yoyo counterclockwise to loosen the string. When the loop around the axle opens wide enough, slip the string off of the yoyo. Take your new string, and open a loop at the end, which is wide enough to slip onto your yoyo.
What's the right length?
Let the yoyo hang freely to the ground. At your belly button height, tie a loop in the string and then cut off the extra string. Now spin the yoyo clockwise to tighten the string... experience will tell you how much. When the yoyo is tight enough to wind up, give the yoyo a couple of hard throws, followed by a few loops. Your new string should be ready to play.
